September 10th is Suicide Awareness Day, a time set aside worldwide to honor those we have lost, support those who are struggling, and remind each other that hope and help are always within reach. For us at No One Stands Alone, this day carries a very personal meaning.
Our founder, Debb Pitel, knows the pain of loss all too well. After her 14-year-old son died by suicide, Debb turned her grief into action. She started this nonprofit to make sure that no one else would feel as isolated, unsupported, or without resources as her family once did. From that loss grew a mission: to create and distribute free, practical mental health help guides that connect people to the support they desperately need.
Why This Day Matters
Suicide Awareness Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a reminder that:
- Every life matters.
- Every voice deserves to be heard.
- Every struggle is worthy of compassion.
When we talk openly about suicide, we break down stigma. When we share resources, we empower others. And when we stand together, we remind each person battling in silence that they are not alone.
What We Do
At No One Stands Alone, we believe help should never be hard to find. That’s why we work with schools, workplaces, and communities to place mental health guides directly into people’s hands. These guides offer practical steps, crisis contacts, and encouragement so that anyone—whether they are struggling themselves or supporting a loved one—can know where to turn in a moment of need.
How You Can Help
On this Suicide Awareness Day, we invite you to:
- Check in with someone you care about. A simple, “How are you—really?” can make a world of difference.
- Share resources in your workplace, school, or community. Our guides are made to be passed along.
- Support our mission by spreading the word about No One Stands Alone. Together, we can get help to the people who need it most.
You Are Not Alone
If you are reading this and struggling today, please know this: your life has value, your story is not over, and there are people ready to walk beside you.
Our work at No One Stands Alone is sustained entirely through sponsorships and donations. Every guide we create and distribute is only possible because of the generosity of people and organizations who believe in our mission.
We are currently seeking sponsors for the 2025–2026 year. If you or someone you know represents a group, business, or community organization that could help fund this life-saving mission, please reach out at info@noonestandsalone.ca. Together, we can ensure no one has to struggle alone.
